The crust punks of Wicker Park
They are like a guerilla installation on the street and their presence makes an interesting statement on the status of Wicker Park as a Midwestern community of excess.

shots
Because they have a unique sound to them and they are not heard often.

Underground parking air handling drone
It helped me find my parked car, but it is like the most powerful sound sculpture in the World. A very haunting complex humming drone that transports one into isolation outside of reality.

Because I've never heard him drop his accent even though he is creepy

The EL saying "Doors Closing"
It's the most common phrase used by the EL, even though most of the Chicago residents ignore the warning.

Lake Michigan waves crashing into the metal barriers at Oak Street Beach on a windy day.
It reminds me of the forces of nature, even though I'm in the city.

Church Bells at Holy Name Cathedral
Their bell has a lovely tone, even if they only have one bells in their tower. The bell also echoes off tall buildings in the area.

The Red Line EL running through the subway stops in the loop.
It's one sound that definitely says downtown Chicago. I also like to hear the musicians.

Lake Michigan lapping against the concrete blocks and also flowing over the wooden outflow at Roger's Park in Roger's Park.
I grew up in Kansas, and we didn't have much water, no real lakes like this. I love to hear moving water, especially at beaches.

The sound of small waves crashing at the shore of Lake Michigan.
It's relaxing to be able to hear that sound in the midst of all the bustle of the city.

The Chicago Air and Water Show
It is the randomness of the sound that makes it intriguing. Not knowing when the next passby is creates a wonderful surprise. The close rumble of the jets allow you to feel the sound as much as you can hear it. The sound almost becomes the visual reference of teh sky tearing apart.

Revolving Doors
The whooshing is a very cool sound, but it is the transition from an inside environment to a noisy outside environment that makes this sound my favorite.
